We recommend that you get support from us to do the technical stuff, but this video contains all information you need to do it yourself. And remember, that no matter what you do, it only takes 5 minutes to re-install WordPress, so if something breaks, just re-install and try again.
Activate your account
First step is to activate your new hosting account.
Fatcow will send you an e-mail containing your username and a link to set up your password.
Hostgator will send you two links, two usernames and two passwords, this is because their control panel is separate from their customer portal.
The first time you log in to your control panel, both Fatcow and Hostgator will prompt you with some automated advertisements, just go ahead and close these ads, and continue to the control panel. Fatcow has a few extra ads inside the control panel, but if you have Adblock installed, you can easily hide these…. We also recommend that you visit the “Fatcow subscription management” and input your e-mail to select what types of advertisements you want to receive.
While we wait ...
It takes a few hours before your domain name comes online, so if you ordered SSL certificate, you can use the time to activate your SSL certificate. This is also a great opportunity to explore the control-panel, and maybe set up your new e-mail accounts. While you wait for the internet to activate your new domain name, you can also begin to look for some interesting images for your website. We recommend Pixabay and Unsplash, where the images are free.
Another thing you can do, while waiting, is to find a “responsive WordPress theme”. There are free responsive themes and premium responsive themes, just be sure to download the documentation as well as the theme pack, since this is needed to setup the design of your website.

If you are going to build a web-shop, as part of your site, remember that the WordPress theme you select must be “Woo Commerce ready” or specifically build for Woo Commerce. Now would also be a great time to visit YouTube and learn about “WordPress for beginners”, so you know how it works, and what to click on.
One click install
Once your browser is able to access your domain name, you are ready to install WordPress... The installation process is very similar on both Fatcow and Hostgator, and if you have any issues, just contact their tech support and they will help you.
When you pick your installation destination, be careful to select the one with “WWW” and if your have signed up for SSL certificate, then pick the one with “HTTPS” and “WWW”. Once the installation is complete, go ahead and log into WordPress.
The first step is to clean up the dashboard by selecting “screen options”, disabling all features and closing all ads and notices. Next step is to select “plugins”, in the menu, and deactivate all plugins. After this is done your dashboard should look clean and tidy, and we are ready to install your chosen theme.
Upload your theme
Select “themes” and click “upload”, or simply install a theme from the “Wordpress Themes selection”. If you have ordered a premium theme, it normally includes professional installation, so for some people it would be worth spending a little money on a premium theme that includes installation support. When you use a free theme, it is very important to follow the documentation very precisely, or you can contact us using the chat box and we’ll help you get the theme installed correctly.
Ready to rock!
If all goes as planned you should now have a fully functional, professional looking website, ready to be customized and updated with your own content and images.
Congratulations you did it!Next video
